Lumbar hernias, rare defects in the abdominal wall, are often misdiagnosed. Early diagnosis via CT scans and surgical repair, like laparoscopic mesh repair, improves patient outcomes for these uncommon conditions.

- Lumbar hernias result from weaknesses in the posterolateral abdominal wall, often occurring in specific anatomical triangles.
- Primary lumbar hernias are rare and frequently misdiagnosed, delaying appropriate treatment.
Observation:
- A 66-year-old male presented with a decade-long history of a growing left lumbar mass with vague pain.
- Computed tomography confirmed a Grynfeltt hernia, a rare type of lumbar hernia.
Findings:
- The patient successfully underwent a laparoscopic mesh repair for the Grynfeltt hernia.
- The postoperative hospital stay was uneventful, indicating successful minimally invasive treatment.
Implications:
- A high index of suspicion for lumbar hernias is crucial when evaluating lumbar masses.
- Timely diagnosis using computed tomography and prompt surgical intervention (open or minimally invasive) can prevent complications associated with lumbar hernias.
