Development and Validation of a Risk Score for Diabetes Screening in Oman

A new diabetes risk score was developed for the Omani population. This self-administered tool identifies individuals at risk for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) using eight key factors.

- External validation (Sur 2006) yielded an AUC of 0.74 with optimal cutoff ≥ 13 (sensitivity 54.0%, specificity 79.0%). Existing scores performed poorly in the Omani population.

- The developed diabetes risk score is an easy-to-use, self-administered tool for screening prevalent T2DM in Oman.
- The score identifies individuals at risk and raises awareness about diabetes risk factors.
