Biomarkers of sleep, specifically non-rapid eye movement 2 sleep patterns on continuous electroencephalogram (EEG), better predict outcomes in intensive care unit patients than other EEG patterns. This review covers sleep biomarkers and interventions to improve sleep in critical care.
