Background:

  • Delayed ejaculation (DE) is a male sexual disorder with multifactorial causes, including psychogenic and organic influences.
  • Elevated prolactin levels, potentially due to stress, pituitary issues, or SSRI treatment, are implicated in DE.
  • DE and anejaculation can be comorbid conditions in men with depressive disorders.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the correlation between elevated prolactin levels and depressive symptoms with delayed ejaculation in men.
  • To explore the relationship between intravaginal ejaculation latency (IELT) and these physiological and psychological markers.

Main Methods:

  • A cohort of 50 men diagnosed with depressive disorder and undergoing antidepressant treatment for at least 24 weeks was studied.
  • Participants reported long-term delayed ejaculation or anejaculation.
  • Spearman's correlation was used to analyze the relationship between prolactin levels, Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) scores, and IELT.

Main Results:

  • A significant positive correlation was found between elevated prolactin levels and IELT (R = 0.45).
  • A significant positive correlation was observed between BDI-II scores and IELT (R = 0.48).
  • These findings suggest a link between hyperprolactinemia, depression severity, and ejaculatory dysfunction.

  • Elevated prolactin levels are significantly associated with delayed ejaculation in men with depression.
  • Increased depression severity, as measured by the BDI-II, also correlates with longer intravaginal ejaculation latency.
  • These results highlight the importance of assessing prolactin and depression in managing male sexual dysfunction.
