  • Five semi-structured group discussions were conducted with students at the end of their HIPSTA placement.

  • All students felt a sense of belonging to their peer group, and professional identity evolved.

  • Placement on an IPTW does not automatically ensure interprofessional socialization or dual identity.
  • IPTW experiences can lead to different socialization pathways, influencing future collaborative practice.
  • IPTW represents a potential foundational step towards improved interprofessional collaboration and patient care.
