Persistent sciatic artery is a rare axial congenital vascular malformation.
It results from the failure of the sciatic artery to involute during embryonic development.
Associated abnormalities in iliac, common femoral, and superficial femoral arteries may occur.

Observation:

Patients can be asymptomatic.
Symptomatic presentation may include chronic pain, such as sciatic neuralgia.
Pain can stem from nerve compression by the abnormal vessel or ischemic events.

Findings:

The condition is a result of incomplete embryonic vascular development.
Associated arterial anomalies are common.
