[Critical considerations on the retention of individually cut attachments based on follow-up studies]

10 prostheses with individually cut attachments and 50 prosthetic appliances with parallel walled telescopic crowns were tested for their retention after a wear of between 2 and 7 1/2 years. Of the attachments only 3 cases showed good retention; in 4 it was minimal and no rentention was seen in 3 cases. Good retention was maintained in 10 telescoping prostheses, 24 had minimal and 16 no retention. Severe grades of loosening was only seen in telescoping supporting teeth where the anchor had good friction.
