Acute mesenteric ischemia in COVID-19: Case report and current understanding

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can cause acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI), a serious condition. Early recognition and prompt treatment are crucial for patient survival, as demonstrated in these case studies.

- Prompt intervention in the first patient led to a 5-day post-operative discharge.
- Delayed presentation in the second patient resulted in mortality 72 hours after surgery.

- These cases underscore the critical need for high clinical suspicion of AMI in COVID-19 patients with abdominal symptoms.
