Gut-derived butyrate suppresses ocular surface inflammation

Gut-derived short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) can maintain ocular surface health. This study shows that the SCFA transporter SLC5A8 mediates the protective effects of SCFAs on the ocular surface, reducing inflammation.
