Summary

Background:

Bone fractures are significant clinical events with limited active treatments for delayed or nonunions.
Current surgical interventions carry inherent risks.
This study explores an alternative treatment for delayed union using herbal decoction.

Purpose of the Study:

To report on the successful treatment of three delayed bone union cases using the herbal decoction Jeopgol-tang.
To evaluate the efficacy of Jeopgol-tang as a complementary therapy for bone fracture healing.

Main Methods:

Three patients with diagnosed delayed unions (trapezoid, metacarpal, metatarsal fractures) were treated.
Patients received the herbal decoction Jeopgol-tang twice daily for 56-91 days.
Treatment involved no interventions beyond a splint and individually tailored herbal additions.

Main Results:

Radiographic imaging confirmed callus formation and bony bridging in all patients.
Patients reported significant pain reduction post-treatment.
Delayed unions were successfully resolved without surgical intervention.

Conclusions:

The herbal decoction Jeopgol-tang demonstrated positive outcomes in treating delayed bone unions.
Further research is warranted to establish Jeopgol-tang's role in complementary and integrative medicine for fracture healing.
