  • To conduct a needs assessment for simulation-based training (SBT) in private Danish otorhinolaryngology (ORL) practice.
  • To identify and prioritize technical skills and procedures suitable for SBT.

  • Utilized the Delphi method with a panel of ORL trainers and trainees.
  • Conducted three rounds of surveys to assess the learning environment, procedure frequency, importance, patient safety impact, and feasibility for SBT.
  • Prioritized technical skills through elimination and ranking processes.

  • 26 trainers and trainees participated; 136 skills were initially suggested.
  • 46 technical skills were evaluated, leading to the prioritization of eight key skills for SBT.
  • Myringotomy with ventilation tube insertion was ranked highest for simulation-based training.

Conclusions:

  • Findings inform the curricular implementation of SBT in private ORL practice.
  • A structured "package" for SBT and assessment of prioritized procedures is desired by trainers.
  • Positive attitudes towards SBT among ORL professionals facilitate implementation.
