This study presents the first national population norms for the EQ-5D-3L in Russia, revealing its sensitivity to health experiences and highlighting Russian-specific characteristics for Health Related Quality of Life research.
Area of Science:
- Health Economics
- Public Health
- Psychometrics
Background:
- The EQ-5D survey is a global standard for measuring Health Related Quality of Life (HRQOL).
- Interest in HRQOL and Health Technology Assessment (HTA) is increasing in the Russian Federation.
- There is a need for nationally representative data on the EQ-5D in Russia.
Purpose of the Study:
- To systematically present EQ-5D-3L nationally representative population norms for Russia.
- To examine the socioeconomic and socio-demographic characteristics of the EQ-5D instrument in a Russian sample.
- To provide a foundation for advancing HRQOL research and HTA in Russia.
Main Methods:
- A nationally representative health and well-being survey of the Russian population (November 2017).
- Descriptive analysis of EQ-5D-3L, EQ-VAS, and EQ-5D Index by age and gender.
- Augmented logistic regressions to assess associations between EQ-5D dimensions and socio-economic/health characteristics.
Main Results:
- The EQ-5D instrument demonstrates sensitivity to observed and latent health experiences in the Russian population.
- Findings largely mirror those from other international settings, with some Russian-specific nuances.
- The anxiety/depression dimension showed particular Russian specificities warranting further investigation.
Conclusions:
- This research establishes crucial EQ-5D-3L population norms for Russia.
- It supports the utility of the EQ-5D for HRQOL assessment and HTA in the Russian context.
- The study underscores the need for further research into Russian-specific health characteristics measured by the EQ-5D.
