Current Trends in Nursing II

1.4K
Trends in nursing are multifactorial and associated with changes in society, within the nursing profession, and in other professions. Notably, telehealth and remote nursing contribute to successful healthcare delivery for numerous patients and help reduce stress for nurses due to nursing shortages. Nurses can reach patients, monitor their conditions, and interact with them using computers, audio, visual accessories, and telephones—for example, remote patient monitoring systems. Likewise,...

Nursing Implementation01:15

Nursing Implementation

5.4K
Implementation is the execution of the nursing care plan developed during the planning phase.
The five steps to implementing effective nursing care include reassessing the patient, reviewing and revising the existing nursing care plan, organizing the resources and care delivery, anticipating and preventing complications, and implementing nursing interventions.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations based in Geneva. The WHO has many initiatives that center around health. Primarily, they lead global efforts to expand universal health coverage using science-based policies and programs. They are also responsible for shaping health research agendas and developing norms and standards.
The WHO provides expert team support, including funding, vaccines, testing, and treatment tools at the country level to fight...

Nursing Interventions II: Selecting and Classifying the Nursing Interventions

2.5K
Creating and executing a nursing diagnosis helps nurses plan care and guide patient, family, and community interventions. They are developed based on a patient's physical evaluation and support measuring the outcomes. It is not recommended to select random interventions throughout the planning process. Instead, consider the following six essential factors when choosing interventions:

Nursing Code of Ethics01:29

Nursing Code of Ethics

2.7K
The Nursing Code of Ethics sets the ethical benchmark for the profession, and guides nurses in ethical analysis and decision making at the societal, organizational, and clinical levels. The code encompasses showing compassion and respect for the patient, their families, and communities in all circumstances while committing to providing patient-centered care. In addition, the code states that nurses must advocate for the patient by defending a cause or recommendation to protect their rights,...

Nursing Ethical Principles II01:27

Nursing Ethical Principles II

1.4K
Ethical principles are essential in guiding nurses to fulfill their responsibilities, focusing on the quality of nursing care and decision-making. These principles, including autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, justice, and fidelity, shape the ethical framework within healthcare settings.
Consider the following scenario, which illustrates how these principles are applied in the care of Mr. John, a fifty-year-old teacher diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer.
Initially, Mr. John's...

Summary

Evidence-Based Nursing Practice (EBP) is suboptimal in Ghana, with many nurses struggling to formulate research questions and integrate evidence into practice. Clinical nurses face greater challenges than nurse educators in applying research findings.

Area of Science:

  • Nursing Science
  • Healthcare Management

Background:

  • The 21st-century nursing profession demands high professionalism and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Evidence-Based Nursing Practice (EBP) offers a pathway to enhance clinical reasoning and patient care.
  • EBP can improve patient outcomes and facilitate cost containment in healthcare.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the current state of evidence-based nursing practice among nurses in Ghana.
  • To identify challenges and facilitators for EBP implementation in Ghanaian healthcare settings.

Main Methods:

  • A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted.
  • Data were collected from clinical nurses and nurse educators in both private and public Ghanaian institutions.
  • Inclusion criteria specified active service, full-time or part-time appointments, and a valid PIN from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.

Main Results:

  • Approximately 50% of nurses expressed disagreement or neutrality regarding formulating answerable research questions.
  • 40% of nurses did not critically evaluate relevant scientific evidence.
  • Over 30% of nurses were neutral or disagreed with integrating scientific evidence into practice.
  • Clinical nurses were twice as likely as nurse educators to struggle with applying research findings to patient care.

Conclusions:

  • The uptake and integration of Evidence-Based Nursing Practice (EBP) in Ghana are suboptimal.
  • Barriers exist in formulating research questions, critically appraising evidence, and integrating findings into clinical practice.
  • Targeted interventions and support are needed to enhance EBP among Ghanaian nurses, particularly clinical nurses.
