Amyloid fibrils are aggregates of misfolded proteins.  Under most circumstances, misfolded proteins are either refolded by chaperone proteins or degraded by the proteasome. Dialysis-related amyloidosis (DRA), caused by beta-2 microglobulin (B2M) buildup, is decreasing due to RRT advances. However, rising end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients may see increased DRA interventions.
