    Summary

    Allergen exposure primes the nasal lining, increasing reactivity. This study found that neither histamine nor methacholine cause this allergen-induced priming effect in normal subjects.

    Background:

    • Allergen exposure in the nasal passages is known to increase non-specific nasal reactivity.
    • This phenomenon, termed the 'priming effect', enhances the nasal mucosa's sensitivity to subsequent stimuli.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate whether histamine or methacholine contribute to the allergen-induced 'priming effect' in the nasal mucosa.
