Background:

  • A veteran-centric LCS decision tool (LCSDecTool) may enhance LCS implementation in this population.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To conduct usability testing of a veteran-specific LCS decision tool (LCSDecTool).
  • To evaluate the LCSDecTool's effectiveness in informing veterans about LCS and preparing them for SDM.

Main Methods:

  • Usability testing of a prototype (Phase 1) and high-fidelity (Phase 2) LCSDecTool.
  • Involved 18 veterans and 8 clinicians in Phase 1; 43 veterans in Phase 2.
  • Collected quantitative (SUS, EUCS, Patient Engagement) and qualitative data.

Main Results:

  • Phase 1 prototype showed excellent usability (SUS: 81.90).
  • Phase 2 high-fidelity tool showed good usability (SUS: 65.76), improving LCS awareness and engagement.
  • Users found the tool easy to use but desired more detail and clearer medical terminology.

Conclusions:

  • The LCSDecTool shows promise for engaging veterans in LCS.
  • This eHealth technology can inform veterans and prepare them for SDM discussions.
  • Supports the use of veteran-centric eHealth tools in primary care for cancer screening.
