  • Examination revealed conjunctival injection and a tarsal conjunctival epithelial defect in both eyes.
  • The patient admitted to frequently removing mucus from his eyes, leading to direct contact with the ocular surface.

Findings:

  • The patient was diagnosed with mucus fishing syndrome.
  • His symptoms resolved within a month after discontinuing the mucus-fishing habit and undergoing treatment with topical antibiotics and steroids.

Implications:

  • Mucus fishing syndrome should be considered in the diagnosis of chronic conjunctivitis.
  • Understanding this condition is crucial for effective patient management and treatment of chronic eye irritation.
