Background:

Person-centered care is advocated for cancer patients, but measuring its delivery beyond clinical outcomes is challenging.
Nurses and patients value a positive care experience, highlighting the need for effective measurement tools.
Existing methods struggle to capture the nuances of person-centered care in clinical practice.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore the impact of a coproduced implementation project using person-centered nursing key performance indicators (PCN KPIs).
To support the development of person-centered practice in ambulatory chemotherapy units.
To inform quality improvement activities through data collection and analysis.

Main Methods:

An evaluation approach based on Medical Research Council guidance was used.
A mobile application facilitated data collection and analysis across three cycles using four measurement tools.
Six implementation teams from UK chemotherapy units participated, with qualitative interviews assessing participant experiences.

Main Results:

Four key themes emerged: nurturing relationships, inspiring nursing staff, shaping practice through conversations, and achieving person-centeredness via coproduction.
The implementation project successfully integrated PCN KPIs into practice.
Qualitative data highlighted the positive experiences of participants involved in the coproduction process.

Conclusions:

Implementing PCN KPIs via coproduction in cancer nursing is valuable.
Generated data offer actionable feedback for nurses to enhance person-centered practice.
This approach contributes to improved patient experiences and the development of person-centered cultures in oncology.
