Community Based Intervention01:30

Community Based Intervention

101
Community-based interventions in mental health represent a paradigm shift from institution-centered care to treatments embedded within the fabric of local communities. By prioritizing inclusion and leveraging existing societal structures, this approach fosters a supportive environment conducive to addressing mental health challenges while promoting individual dignity and agency.

Nursing Implementation01:15

Nursing Implementation

5.4K
Implementation is the execution of the nursing care plan developed during the planning phase.
The five steps to implementing effective nursing care include reassessing the patient, reviewing and revising the existing nursing care plan, organizing the resources and care delivery, anticipating and preventing complications, and implementing nursing interventions.

Nursing Evaluation01:15

Nursing Evaluation

3.7K
The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Nursing Interventions II: Selecting and Classifying the Nursing Interventions

2.5K
Creating and executing a nursing diagnosis helps nurses plan care and guide patient, family, and community interventions. They are developed based on a patient's physical evaluation and support measuring the outcomes. It is not recommended to select random interventions throughout the planning process. Instead, consider the following six essential factors when choosing interventions:

Formulating and Validating Nursing Diagnosis II

3.1K
Nursing diagnoses represent a problem validated by major defining characteristics. There are four categories of nursing diagnoses: problem-focused, risk, health promotion or wellness, and syndrome. The anatomy of a nursing diagnosis includes three components: problem statement or diagnostic label, defining characteristics, and related factors.
Risk nursing diagnoses represent clinical judgments of an individual, family, or community more vulnerable to developing the health problem than others...

Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS)
A Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS) is a specialized type of healthcare information system tailored to meet the unique needs of nursing practice. It incorporates the principles of nursing informatics to streamline information management and improve the quality of care delivery.
Critical attributes of NCIS include:

Summary

A problem-based geropsychiatric internship improved nursing students' knowledge of older adults' mental health. However, it did not significantly enhance attitudes, skills, or self-reflection abilities in this population.

Area of Science:

  • Geriatric Psychiatry
  • Nursing Education
  • Mental Health Nursing

Background:

  • Effective clinical internships for older adults with mental health disorders are limited.
  • Geropsychiatric care requires specialized knowledge and skills for nursing students.
  • Problem-based learning (PBL) is a pedagogical approach with potential in specialized healthcare training.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effectiveness of a problem-based geropsychiatric clinical internship program.
  • To evaluate the impact of PBL on nursing students' knowledge, attitude, skills, and self-reflection.
  • To assess the applicability of PBL in geropsychiatric mental health nursing education in Taiwan.

Main Methods:

  • A quasi-experimental study involving 126 nursing students in Taiwan.
  • Comparison between an experimental group (PBL geropsychiatric internship) and a control group (general psychiatric internship).
  • Pre- and post-intervention measurements (T1 and T2) of knowledge, attitude, skills, and self-reflection.

Main Results:

  • No significant baseline differences between groups at T1.
  • The experimental group showed significantly higher knowledge scores at T2 (p = 0.02).
  • No significant differences were found in attitude, skills, or self-reflection between groups at T2.

Conclusions:

  • Problem-based approaches are applicable and beneficial for geropsychiatric nursing internships.
  • PBL effectively enhances nursing students' knowledge regarding mental illness in older adults.
  • Further research may be needed to improve PBL's impact on attitudes, skills, and self-reflection in this context.
