Summary

This case report details a rare instance of breast lymphoma in a 74-year-old female, presenting as a large, long-standing mass. The diagnosis was confirmed as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, requiring chemotherapy.

Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Breast lymphoma is an uncommon malignancy, comprising less than 0.5% of all breast cancers.
  • Clinical presentation often mimics breast cancer, typically as a painless palpable mass.

Observation:

  • A 74-year-old female presented with a right breast mass, noted since the 1970s with prior benign excisions.
  • Recent mammography revealed a rapidly growing, large (13 x 8.7 cm) lobulated mass with axillary lymphadenopathy.

Findings:

  • Biopsy confirmed the lesion as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
  • This represents a unique and extensive presentation of breast lymphoma.

Implications:

  • Highlights the importance of thorough investigation for persistent breast masses, even with a history of benign findings.
