Summary
Genetic variations in matrix metalloproteinases 1 and 13 do not appear to cause posttraumatic elbow stiffness. Longer immobilization times, however, were significantly associated with developing elbow stiffness.

Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the association between genetic polymorphisms of MMP-1 and MMP-13 and the occurrence of posttraumatic elbow stiffness.

- A case-control study was conducted with 20 patients suffering from posttraumatic elbow stiffness and 12 controls.
- DNA was extracted from buccal cells, and MMP-1 and MMP-13 genotypes were analyzed using PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism assays.

- No significant differences in the frequency of MMP-1 and MMP-13 genotypes or alleles were observed between patients and controls.
