    Background:

    • Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common, often caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli).
    • Developing effective preventative strategies for recurrent UTIs remains a significant clinical challenge.
    • Local immune responses in the urinary tract play a crucial role in combating uropathogens.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the efficacy of vaginal immunization with formalin-killed E. coli in preventing and clearing UTIs in a primate model.
    • To assess the impact of vaginal immunization on local urinary immune responses, specifically IgA and IgG antibody levels.
    • To determine if enhanced local immunity can reduce host susceptibility to E. coli-induced UTIs.

    Main Methods:

    • Cynomolgus monkeys were vaginally immunized with formalin-killed E. coli or an excipient control.
