Summary

Trauma-informed primary healthcare significantly improves recovery outcomes for human trafficking survivors. Receiving care at the Medical Safe Haven (MSH) clinic increased successful completion of anti-trafficking services by over five times.

Background:

Limited understanding of trauma-informed primary healthcare's role in human trafficking recovery.
Need to identify factors promoting successful engagement with community services for survivors.

Purpose of the Study:

Evaluate the Medical Safe Haven (MSH) trauma-informed family medicine clinic's effectiveness.
Assess MSH's impact on success in the Community Against Sexual Harm (CASH) program.
Identify participant characteristics linked to successful CASH completion.

Main Methods:

Retrospective analysis of 57 adult female human trafficking survivors in the CASH program.
Comparison of outcomes between 37 MSH patients and 20 non-MSH patients.
Logistic, linear, and survival regression analyses to assess MSH care and CASH completion.

Main Results:

MSH patients had 5.37 times higher odds of successful CASH completion.
Increased MSH care duration and patient engagement strengthened this association.
MSH care reduced program incompletion risk by 68%.

Conclusions:

Adults experiencing human trafficking benefit significantly from trauma-informed healthcare at MSH.
Consistent, trauma-informed longitudinal healthcare is crucial for trafficked persons' recovery.
MSH care positively impacts completion rates in anti-trafficking programs.
