Exploring the Contributions and Challenges of Museum Technology Professionals during the COVID-19 Crisis
Abstract:
This paper presents results from an online survey designed to explore the role of museum technology professionals during times of crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey results offer an important first look at the contributions and challenges of museum technology professionals during a critical turning point in the history of museums. The analysis of these results provides insight into how museum technology professionals are affected during times of crisis, the contributions they can make to museums in crisis, and how they can better advocate their value to museum leadership in crisis situations. The research results demonstrate the need for museums to promote digital literacy skills, increase their investment in digital technologies, and develop the digital strategies they will need to respond to future crises head on.
