This study validated the Spanish version of the organizational dehumanization scale (ODS) in Chilean employees. The scale demonstrated good reliability and validity, making it a useful tool for research in Spanish-speaking contexts.
Area of Science:
- Organizational Psychology
- Psychometrics
Background:
- Organizational dehumanization is a growing concern in workplace research.
- Existing scales may not be suitable for diverse linguistic and cultural contexts.
- Validating measurement tools is crucial for accurate research findings.
Purpose of the Study:
- To validate the Organizational Dehumanization Scale (ODS) in a Spanish-speaking sample.
- To assess the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the ODS.
- To provide a reliable measure for studying organizational dehumanization in Latin America.
Main Methods:
- A sample of 422 Chilean employees completed an online questionnaire.
- Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were used to examine the ODS structure.
- Reliability (Cronbach's alpha, McDonald's omega) and criterion validity were tested.
Main Results:
- The Spanish ODS demonstrated a one-factor structure after item removal.
- Excellent internal consistency was found (α = 0.92; ω = 0.92).
- Significant medium to high correlations with job satisfaction, citizenship behaviors, and authentic leadership indicated good criterion validity.
Conclusions:
- The Spanish version of the ODS possesses adequate psychometric properties.
- This validated scale can advance the understanding and evaluation of organizational dehumanization in Spanish-speaking settings.
- The findings support the use of the ODS for future research and practical applications.
