Formulating and Validating Nursing Diagnosis II01:25

Formulating and Validating Nursing Diagnosis II

3.1K
Nursing diagnoses represent a problem validated by major defining characteristics. There are four categories of nursing diagnoses: problem-focused, risk, health promotion or wellness, and syndrome. The anatomy of a nursing diagnosis includes three components: problem statement or diagnostic label, defining characteristics, and related factors.
Risk nursing diagnoses represent clinical judgments of an individual, family, or community more vulnerable to developing the health problem than others...

Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Epidemiology
  • Medical Informatics

Background:

  • Web-based surveys offer potential for large-scale epidemiological studies.
  • Accurate diagnosis of headache disorders like migraine and TTH is crucial.
  • Validation of self-administered questionnaires against clinical diagnosis is necessary.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop and validate a web-based questionnaire for diagnosing migraine, probable migraine (PM), and tension-type headache (TTH).

Main Methods:

  • A seven-item questionnaire was developed for migraine, PM, and TTH diagnosis.
  • A web-based survey was administered to adults aged 20-59.
  • Telephone interviews conducted by a neurologist served as the validation standard.

Main Results:

  • The questionnaire demonstrated high agreement for migraine (kappa: 0.875) and TTH (kappa: 0.809).
  • Sensitivity and specificity were strong for migraine (92.6%, 94.8%) and TTH (78.4%, 98.4%).
  • Probable migraine showed good agreement (kappa: 0.757) with sensitivity of 85.0% and specificity of 92.9%.

Conclusions:

  • The developed web-based questionnaire is a valid tool for identifying migraine, probable migraine, and TTH.
  • This digital approach can facilitate efficient and reliable headache disorder diagnosis in epidemiological research.
