    Summary

    Caffey's disease, a rare infantile skeletal disorder, presents with fever and bone changes. A recent congenital case in a premature infant was linked to maternal herpes zoster during pregnancy.

    Background:

    • Caffey's disease (infantile cortical hyperostosis) is an inflammatory skeletal disorder characterized by fever, soft tissue swelling, and periosteal new bone formation.
    • Historically prevalent from 1940-1960, nonfamilial cases are now exceptionally rare, making diagnosis and study challenging.

    Observation:

    • The authors report a rare sporadic occurrence of congenital Caffey's disease in a premature infant.
    • This case presented with characteristic clinical and radiographic findings of infantile cortical hyperostosis.
