    Background:

    • Postcoital contraception is sought by women needing emergency contraception.
    • Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are a long-acting reversible contraceptive method.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the effectiveness of the postcoital intrauterine device (IUD) as a continuing contraceptive method.
    • To compare IUD use for postcoital contraception versus routine contraception.

    Main Methods:

    • A two-year controlled clinical study involving 98 women.
    • Comparison of pregnancy, expulsion, and removal rates between postcoital IUD users and a control group using IUDs for routine contraception.
