This study introduces a new model for agile-integrated product lines (APL) that enhances quality and configurability. The proposed quality enhanced application product line engineering (QeAPLE) model significantly improves system adaptability and reduces development effort.
Area of Science:
- Software Engineering
- Product Line Engineering
- Agile Development
Background:
- Industries require rapid development of high-quality, configurable systems.
- Component-based systems and software product line engineering (SPLE) are crucial for reusability and cost-effectiveness.
- Integrating agile development with SPLE (APL) faces challenges in component selection, documentation, and requirement traceability.
Purpose of the Study:
- To propose a hybrid APL model, quality enhanced application product line engineering (QeAPLE), for highly configurable systems (HCS).
- To address challenges in feature dependency evaluation, documentation, and requirement traceability within APL.
- To enhance the quality and adaptability of configurable software systems.
Main Methods:
- Development of the QeAPLE model, incorporating feature dependency evaluation and documentation/traceability functions.
- Deployment of the QeAPLE model on an active project for validation.
- Comparative analysis using statistical methods against an existing APL method in a real-world environment.
Main Results:
- The QeAPLE model demonstrated statistically significant improvements in effectiveness and participant performance compared to the existing method.
- Key improvements include over 50% enhancement in ease of understanding, adaptability, required effort reduction, high-quality achievement, and version management.
- The model effectively manages variation identification, version control, component dependency, and validation from domain to application engineering.
Conclusions:
- The proposed QeAPLE model is practically and statistically significant for developing highly configurable systems with enhanced quality.
- It offers a robust solution for managing complexity in agile-integrated product line engineering.
- The model's effectiveness in improving key development metrics validates its utility in real-world software development.

Feedback control systems
Linear feedback systems are theoretical models that simplify analysis and design. These systems operate under the principle that their output is directly proportional to their input within certain ranges. For instance, an amplifier in a control system behaves linearly as long as the input signal remains within a specific range. However, most physical systems exhibit inherent nonlinearity...
