Abstract:
The author underlines the nineteenth-century biological roots of Freudian psychoanalysis and concludes that much that is wrong with psychoanalytic theory, as Freud conceived it, may be traced back to these outmoded biological assumptions. he then analyzes the development of the "Freud Legend" considering that psychoanalytic history has, like history in general, its origins in myth, a myth however which has continued to rule this history.
