Summary

Playing "Baby Shark" did not significantly improve cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) compression rates. However, it showed a trend toward improving adequate compression depth, potentially aiding CPR training.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine if listening to PinkFong's 'Baby Shark' improves CPR compression rate and depth compared to whale noises.
  • To assess the impact of a metronomic musical cue on simulated CPR performance.

Main Methods:

  • 58 healthcare professionals (mostly doctors) were randomized to listen to 'Baby Shark' or whale song for one minute before performing one minute of simulated CPR.
  • Compression rate and depth were measured for both groups.

Main Results:

  • No significant difference in mean compression rate between the 'Baby Shark' group (121 bpm) and the control group (125 bpm).
  • The 'Baby Shark' group had a higher percentage of compressions within the target depth zone (55%) compared to the control group (39%), though not statistically significant.
