Summary

Background:

Garment workers face high risks of work-related upper limb disorders (WRULD) due to repetitive tasks.
Workplace-based rehabilitation (WBR) offers on-site interventions to enhance work performance.

Purpose of the Study:

To determine the documented outcomes of workplace-based occupational therapy rehabilitation for garment workers with upper limb conditions.

Main Methods:

A multiple case study design utilizing retrospective record review.
Included 7 garment workers with upper limb conditions treated at a student occupational therapy practice.
Data extracted from occupational and medical files, including pre- and post-intervention assessments.

Main Results:

70% of participants (5 out of 7) showed improvement following WBR.
Interventions included workstation adaptations, job rotation, psychoeducation, task modification, assistive technology, and exercise programs.
Outcome measures used were RULA, DASH, Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire, and VAS for pain intensity.

Conclusions:

Workplace-based occupational therapy demonstrates effectiveness in improving upper limb function.
This approach can reduce pain and ergonomic risks for garment workers.
WBR is a viable strategy for managing upper limb conditions in this occupational group.
