    Summary

    Thyroid hormone levels in alcoholic liver disease may not reflect true thyroid function but can indicate disease severity. Most patients are euthyroid, though some show mild pituitary dysfunction.

    Background:

    • Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) presents altered thyroid hormone profiles, similar to other nonthyroidal illnesses.
    • Ethanol impacts thyroid gland function and hormone metabolism, yet most ALD patients remain euthyroid.
    • Mild hypothalamic-pituitary axis dysfunction can occur in some ALD patients.
