Summary

Robotic-assisted surgery for sequential bilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) shows similar peri-operative outcomes and safety compared to conventional methods. Robotic TKA offers improved knee alignment and functional scores, despite a longer operative time.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess peri-operative outcomes of robotic-assisted sequential bilateral TKA.
  • To compare complication rates, clinical outcomes, and implant positioning against conventional TKA.
  • To determine the safety and efficacy of robotic-assisted sequential bilateral TKA.

Main Methods:

  • A cohort of 20 patients undergoing robotic-assisted sequential bilateral primary TKA (raTKA) was matched with 20 patients undergoing conventional TKA.
  • Patients were comparable in demographics and preoperative parameters.
  • Minimum follow-up was 6 months.

  • Robotic TKA had a significantly longer operative time (mean additional 29 min).
  • No significant differences in blood loss, transfusion rates, or postoperative pain.
