    • Psychiatry
    • Eating Disorders

    Background:

    • Anorexia nervosa is predominantly recognized as an adolescent-onset eating disorder.
    • Recent literature indicates a rise in reported cases of anorexia nervosa in later life.

    Observation:

    • Presents three cases of probable anorexia nervosa in individuals beyond middle age.
    • Highlights the occurrence of the condition in the fifth, sixth, and seventh decades of life.

    Findings:

    • Anorexia nervosa can manifest in elderly populations, challenging traditional age-related assumptions.
    • Unexplained weight loss in older adults warrants consideration of anorexia nervosa.

    Implications:

    • Physicians need to broaden their differential diagnosis for unexplained weight loss in the elderly.
    • Early recognition and diagnosis of late-onset anorexia nervosa are crucial for appropriate management.
