    Summary

    Postoperative wound fluid contains factors that promote blood vessel growth (angiogenesis). After purification, specific fractions significantly induced neovascularization, suggesting a balance of promoters and inhibitors in wound healing.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the angiogenic potential of postoperative wound drainage fluid.
    • To identify specific components within wound fluid that influence blood vessel growth.
    • To explore the balance of pro-angiogenic and anti-angiogenic factors in wound fluid.

    Main Methods:

    • Chick chorio-allantoic membrane (CAM) assay was used to assess angiogenic activity.
    • Wound fluid samples were tested both in their whole, unfractionated state and after separation via diethyl aminoethyl cellulose (DEAE) ion exchange chromatography.

    • The balance between angiogenic promoters and inhibitors in wound fluid likely regulates the rate of vascularization during the healing process.
