    Segregation distortion, a non-Mendelian inheritance pattern, was investigated in human families. Researchers found no evidence of this phenomenon in the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) system, ruling out common distortion-causing HLA haplotypes.

    Background:

    • Segregation distortion, non-Mendelian gamete segregation, is observed in various organisms, often with extreme ratios in males.
    • Previous studies suggested segregation distortion might occur in the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) system, a complex of immune-regulating genes.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the presence of segregation distortion within the human HLA region.
    • To test five distinct models of inheritance for segregation distortion in non-diseased human families.

    • Analysis of extensive pedigree data from non-diseased families.
    • Scoring of alleles for five HLA region loci.
    • Testing for segregation distortion using allelic, haplotypic, genotypic, diffuse occurrence, and sex ratio models.
