    Area of Science:

    • Oncology
    • Radiation Oncology
    • Head and Neck Surgery

    Background:

    • Recurrent nasopharyngeal cancer presents a significant treatment challenge.
    • Standard treatment options for recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma are limited.

    Observation:

    • Two patients with recurrent epidermoid carcinoma of the nasopharynx were treated.
    • Interstitial brachytherapy was employed as a treatment modality.

    Findings:

    • Both patients achieved local tumor control following the brachytherapy procedure.
    • Both patients were disease-free at the time of reporting.

    Implications:

    • Interstitial brachytherapy is a viable technique for managing recurrent nasopharyngeal cancer.
    • This approach may offer a successful organ-sparing option for select patients.
    • Further investigation into this technique for nasopharyngeal malignancies is warranted.
