Summary

The Strong Model of Advanced Practice tool, originating in the US and modified in Australia, is used for defining nursing roles.
Limited research has focused on developing and validating these role-delineation tools.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the psychometric properties and latent structure of the modified Strong Model of Advanced Practice tool.
To compare its validity against the Australian Advanced Practice Role Delineation tool.

Main Methods:

Psychometric testing using confirmatory factor analysis.
Data collected in September 2020.

Main Results:

The 45-item modified Strong Model of Advanced Practice tool demonstrated construct validity for its five-factor structure.
The modified tool exhibited superior psychometric properties and construct validity compared to the 40-item Australian Advanced Practice Role Delineation tool.

Conclusions:

Psychometric properties of the modified Strong Model of Advanced Practice tool were evaluated.
The 45-item modified tool is recommended for use in delineating advanced practice nursing roles.
