Preoperative prophylactic active vitamin D to streamline total thyroidectomy

Prophylactic preoperative alfacalcidol significantly reduced hypocalcaemia after total thyroidectomy (TT). This supplementation also shortened hospital stays and may eliminate the need for routine postoperative calcium monitoring.
