The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Background:

Physicians are required to evaluate continuing medical education (CME) sessions for participation certificates.
Mandatory evaluations have led to a high volume of low-utility data.

Purpose of the Study:

To analyze the timing of CME evaluations in relation to session start and completion times.
To assess the impact of mandatory evaluations on data quality.

Main Methods:

Obtained time-stamped evaluation data from a CME vendor for grand rounds sessions.
Compared evaluation timestamps against actual session start and end times.

Main Results:

Nearly all attendees completed electronic evaluations.
8% of evaluations were submitted before the session began, and 50% were completed before the session ended.

Conclusions:

Mandatory CME evaluations decrease data quality.
Exploring alternative strategies can enhance educational value and learner satisfaction, especially in "graying grand rounds" settings.
