Prostate hemangioma, a rare condition, was diagnosed in a young man presenting with retrograde ejaculation. Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) was effective for the hemangioma but infertility persisted.
Area of Science:
- Urology
- Pathology
- Medical Imaging
Background:
- Prostate hemangioma is an uncommon benign vascular tumor.
- Diagnosis and management can be challenging due to its rarity.
Purpose of the Study:
- To report a case of prostate hemangioma in a young adult male.
- To discuss diagnostic imaging, pathological findings, and treatment outcomes.
Main Methods:
- Case presentation of a 31-year-old male with retrograde ejaculation.
- Diagnostic imaging including ultrasound revealed a prostatic mass.
- Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) was performed for treatment.
Main Results:
- Pathological examination confirmed the prostatic mass as hemangioma.
- Immunohistochemistry showed specific markers (SMA, CD34, CD31 positive; D2-40 negative).
- One-year follow-up indicated persistent infertility despite successful hemangioma resection.
Conclusions:
- Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is a viable treatment for symptomatic prostate hemangioma.
- Combined treatment strategies may be required to address associated infertility.
