Utilisation review in hospitals: an experimental approach

Utilisation review (UR) as described above has been developed in two hospitals in The Netherlands. In these hospitals a separate project organisation has been set up. UR must be made part of routine daily activities. Moreover, UR should be integrated into activities such as clinical budgeting, policy making and peer review. NZI is now collaborating with CBO in developing hospital audit in which UR will be integrated.
