Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effect of different angiographic imaging techniques on image resolution.
  • To compare image resolution between fluoroscopic capture (FC) and cineangiography (CA).

Main Methods:

  • Utilized American National Standards Institution phantoms (high- and low-contrast) to assess image resolution.
  • Acquired 5-second images using a Phillips Allure system with FC and CA in PA and LAO projections.
  • Evaluated image resolution by three blinded observers, assessing interobserver agreement.

Main Results:

  • Cineangiography (CA) demonstrated significantly higher high-contrast resolution than fluoroscopic capture (FC) (2.09 mm vs. 1.69 mm, P < 0.001).
  • Low-contrast resolution was also significantly better with CA compared to FC (3 mm vs. 5 mm, P < 0.001).
  • Image resolution improved with increased radiation exposure, but was not significantly affected by projection angle or table height.

Conclusions:

  • Image resolution is perceived as better with CA than FC, independent of beam angulation or table height.
  • Optimizing imaging modality selection and maximizing table height can enhance procedural effectiveness and safety.
