Summary
A new Arabic Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire (ASBQ) was developed to assess sedentary time and its outcomes. The ASBQ demonstrated excellent content validity and reliability in a Saudi sample.
Area of Science:
- Public Health
- Epidemiology
- Behavioral Science
Background:
- Sedentary behaviors (SB) are prevalent and linked to chronic diseases and mortality.
- Objective measurement of SB is challenging.
- No validated Arabic self-report instrument exists for SB assessment and its outcomes.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop and validate a multi-item Arabic Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire (ASBQ).
Main Methods:
- Literature review and expert discussion for initial development.
- Content validation by 10 experts.
- Pre-testing with cognitive interviewing (51 respondents).
Main Results:
- The 13-item ASBQ covers diverse sedentary activities.
- Excellent content validity (item-level and scale-level) was achieved.
- High interrater reliability (kappa = 0.95) and positive pre-testing ratings.
Conclusions:
- The ASBQ shows excellent expert acceptance and promising pre-test results.
- Further psychometric testing (reliability, validity) is recommended.

Surveys
15.3K
Often, psychologists develop surveys as a means of gathering data. Surveys are lists of questions to be answered by research participants, and can be delivered as paper-and-pencil questionnaires, administered electronically, or conducted verbally. Generally, the survey itself can be completed in a short time, and the ease of administering a survey makes it easy to collect data from a large number of people.

Data Validation
5.3K
Data validation is an essential part of a comprehensive assessment. Validation is confirming or verifying and opening the door to gathering more assessment data as it clarifies vague or unclear data. The process of checking and verifying the collected information is called data validation. The primary purpose of data validation is to ensure data is as free from error, bias, and misinterpretation as possible.
