Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of targeted screening of HHCs of PTB patients in Central Ethiopia.
  • To assess the prevalence of TB symptoms and risk factors for TB transmission among HHCs.
  • To determine the case detection rate of PTB among HHCs through enhanced contact tracing.

Conclusions:

  • The MDR-TB rate in the study population exceeded recent reports for Ethiopia.
  • Enhanced, risk-adjusted contact tracing is a feasible strategy to improve TB case detection among HHCs.
  • Targeted screening of HHCs can significantly increase the identification of new TB cases.
