[Quality of life, depression and its relation to the severity in psoriasis]

Psoriasis affects 1-3% of the world population. In recent years, it has been studied the relationship of psoriasis with other comorbidities that determine a significant reduction in quality of life and the emotional state of those who suffer from it.

To determine the differences between quality of life and degree of depression related to the degree of severity of the disease in patients with psoriasis.

We performed an observational, cross-sectional study in the Outpatient Service of the General Zone Hospital, inside the IMSS Family Medicine Unit No. 57, from June 1 to December 31, 2020. The Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI) and Beck Depression Inventory were applied. The results of the instruments were compared using Fisher's exact test. Statistical tests were performed with a 95% confidence level with the SPSS software, version 25.

83 patients participated, with an age of 51.6 ± 13.9 years; 59% were male. When comparing the degree of depression with the degree of severity, no statistically significant difference was found (p = 0.430). The comparison of quality of life measured by the degree of severity did show a statistically significant difference (p = 0.008).

The degree of severity of psoriasis affects the quality of life of patients, but not the degree of depression.
