Background:

Active duty service members and their partners encounter unique challenges accessing infertility care.
The Military Health System (MHS) presents specific environmental and career-related factors influencing this process.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore how active duty service members and their partners navigate infertility care.
To identify facilitators and barriers to accessing infertility services within the MHS.

Main Methods:

Qualitative design utilizing grounded theory.
Data collected through demographic questionnaires and semi-structured interviews.
Analysis involved line-by-line coding, focused coding, and constant comparative analysis.

Main Results:

Infertility care navigation is influenced by duty station location, career stage, cost of services, command climate, and policy.
These factors create fragmented care, stress, and conflict between career and family formation.
Experiences varied significantly across the Department of Defense (DoD).

Conclusions:

Improved understanding of military couples' infertility care experiences can enhance access and outcomes.
Addressing identified barriers is essential for supporting military families and readiness.
Policy and program development are needed within the DoD to support effective infertility treatment.
