A novel 3D-printed liquid latex model for infant laparoscopic pyeloplasty (LP) simulation shows promise. This cost-effective training tool received high marks for appearance, texture, and usefulness from pediatric surgeons.

Background:

  • Laparoscopic pyeloplasty (LP) is a complex procedure in infants.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop and evaluate an original 3D-printed liquid latex model for infant laparoscopic pyeloplasty simulation.
  • To assess the model's feasibility, usefulness, and trainee feedback.

Main Methods:

  • A 3D model of a pediatric pelvis and ureter with ureteropelvic junction obstruction was designed and 3D printed.
  • The model was coated in liquid latex to achieve flexibility for surgical simulation.
  • A study involving 8 pediatric surgeons measured operating times and Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills (OSATS) scores, followed by a Likert scale survey.
