Angle Closure Glaucoma: Treatment01:28

Angle Closure Glaucoma: Treatment

648
Angle-closure glaucoma, or closed-angle glaucoma, is an eye condition where the iris bulges out and blocks the iridocorneal angle, resulting in a buildup of aqueous humor and increased intraocular pressure. Immediate medical attention is necessary due to the sudden onset of symptoms. The treatment for angle-closure glaucoma includes short-term and long-term approaches. Short-term treatment involves using eye drops like pilocarpine to lower intraocular pressure by increasing aqueous humor...

Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Medical Case Study

Background:

  • Congenital anterior lenticonus is a rare bilateral condition affecting the anterior lens capsule.
  • Patients often present with progressive vision loss and visual disturbances.

Observation:

  • A patient exhibited poor vision for over 30 years, with recent aggravation.
  • Slit-lamp examination revealed a conical protrusion on the central anterior lens capsule in both eyes.

Findings:

  • The patient was diagnosed with bilateral cataract and congenital anterior lenticonus.
  • Phacoemulsification cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation was successfully performed.

Implications:

  • Surgical correction can effectively restore vision in patients with this condition.
  • Highlights the importance of timely diagnosis and surgical management for congenital anterior lenticonus and cataracts.
